Transfer Requests
There are two types of transfer requests:
- Intra-District transfers are for within SBUSD when families wish to attend a school that is not their school of residence. Child must be enrolled for application to be processed.
- New transfers - if you have never attended the school of choice.
- If your child is currently attending school of choice on an approved transfer, there is no need to complete a new application.
- If the address has changed, provide a change of address to the attendance secretary and submit a new transfer application at the school site.
- Inter-District transfers are to request a change of school district:
- If you wish to leave the SBUSD, you need to submit your transfer request to us and then take signed transfer to the district you wish to attend.
- If you wish to attend SBUSD, you need to start at the HOME district and then submit signed transfer to SBUSD.
THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT A TRANSFER WILL BE APPROVED, THEREFORE ALL STUDENTS SHOULD BE REGISTERED IN THE DISTRICT AND SCHOOL OF RESIDENCE.
PERMIT MAY BE REVOKED IF STUDENT FAILS TO COMPLY WITH TRANSFER
CONDITIONS (E.G. SATISFACTORY ATTENDANCE, BEHAVIOR, SCHOLARSHIP)
All transfer requests require CURRENT PROOF OF RESIDENCY (dated within 60 days and not past due).
Nestor Language Academy Charter and Imperial Beach Middle School enrollments and transfers are processed at the school site. Please go directly to the site of interest for more information.
THE TRANSFER WINDOW OPENS EACH YEAR ON MARCH 1ST AND CLOSES MAY 1ST, FOR THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR. ALL NEW TRANSFERS ARE REVIEWED ONCE-ENROLLMENT NUMBERS HAVE BEEN ESTBLISHED FOR THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR.

NOTE TO EXISTING AND NEW INTER-DISTRICT TRANSFER PARENTS Assembly Bill (AB) 2444 was recently signed into law, to take effect on January 1, 2011. Under AB 2444, a student, who is already enrolled in a school district on an inter-district permit, no longer has to reapply for a transfer and will continue to attend the school in which he or she is enrolled, as a resident of the district. The exception would be if a student’s permit was revoked, or if the student is entering grades 11 or 12. It would behoove parents and students to carefully read the terms and conditions of the inter-district attendance agreement before signing it.
