• SARB Process (School Attendance Review Board)

    SARB School Attendance Review Board
Attendance is extremely important to a child's academic success. Compulsory Education laws require that children between the ages of 6-18 attend school full-time (E.C. 48200).
The School Attendance Review Board holds parents and students accountable by:
    • Enforcing Compulsory Attendance Laws
    • Conducting School Attendance Review Board (SARB) hearings
    • Recommending sanctions
    • Referring non compliant parents to court
A SARB panel is made up of representatives from the school district, along with members of public and community agencies that serve youth and families, such as local law enforcement, school nurses, counselors and others. This panel examines the individual attendance situation and develops a plan with the student and family to end absences. The parent/legal guardian and student then signs a legally-binding contract with the SARB panel. The School Atendance Review Board does have the authority to recommend a citation to court.
SARB is a process that includes:
    • Early Identification
    • Interventions
    • Collaboration
    • Resources
    • Support
    • Prevention
    • Legal action
