• Dear South Bay Families,

    At their meeting on November 19, the Board made the decision that, if the San Diego Public Health Department allows, South Bay will begin in-person hybrid instruction according to the District Reopening Plan (Phase 2) on April 5, 2021, immediately after the scheduled Spring break. 

    On April 5, schools will gradually reopen for grade levels, beginning with grades 7/8 for one week, followed by grades 5/6 the following week. This will allow schools to ensure safety protocols are fully in place and receive valuable feedback from our oldest students during weeks one and two. During week 3, Preschool, TK, Kindergarten, and grade 1 will return, followed by grades 2, 3, and 4 in week 4. 

    The Board's decision to begin Phase 2 on April 5 will be revisited in February 2021 and communication to families will follow the next day. 

    The first phase of in-person opening includes appointments for educational assessments, and in-person learning for high priority individuals or small groups. The Board approved Phase 1, limited and needs-based in-person instruction and assessment, to begin in late January or early February 2021. 

    We hope that this information allows you to plan for the upcoming months. We will provide additional details in the coming weeks.

  •  New South Bay families must complete an Economic Survey. The survey is located at www.myschoolapps.com. The survey will take ten minutes to complete.

  • Information on Food Servicesfood

    Starting on Tuesday, September 8 and continuing every Monday through December 31, all students under the age of eighteen will receive free meals. Families with children from other districts, or who are not enrolled in school, are eligible for this service. Parents/guardians may pick-up meals even if children are not present, however some form of identification for the children is required. Federal guidance requires that meals are only served to children. Acceptable forms of identification include Social Security card, birth certificate, passport, tax return, border crossing ID card, student ID card, etc. Identification documents may be presented on a phone or other device at the time of meal pickup.

    The weekly meal distribution will be on Mondays from 11:00-1:00 at the District warehouse, located at 1111 Saturn Blvd. in San Diego. Meal service is a drive through operation and we accept walk-ins. Meal distributions will continue on the Mondays of each holiday week (November 23, December 21, and December 28).
