Public School Choice

All parents/guardians of students attending a Program Improvement (PI) school have the right to request a transfer of their child(ren) to a non-Program Improvement school (within the district) with district-paid transportation.

For parents/guardians who select this option, the district will provide transportation to the non-Program Improvement school for as long as the home school continues to be identified as a PI School. If the home school exits PI by making AYP (Annual Yearly Progress) for two consecutive years, the student can remain at the school; however, transportation will no longer be district-paid. If the demand for choice exceeds funds available, priority will be given to lowest achieving, low-income students.

For more information see the parent/guardian notification letter about public school choice by using the document links below. Please note, only students attending schools in Program Improvement are eligible for an NCLB transfer.

Supplemental Educational Services (SES) Tutoring Services

The purpose of SES is to provide tutoring to students enrolled in schools that are in the second year of improvement, corrective action, or restructuring at no charge to the family.  The goal of SES is to increase eligible students' academic achievement in reading/language arts, mathematics, and science, as well as English language proficiency for students with limited English proficiency.

In 2012-2013 South Bay Union School District offers the services of 29 state approved providers to students from the following schools:

       Bayside School

       Berry School

       Central School
