This month, we hosted three Town Hall meetings to share information and solicit feedback on the recommendations from the Asset Management Superintendent's Advisory Committee (SAC). Thank you to all the participants that joined us at Mendoza, Central, and Nestor Language Academy.
The Town Hall meetings included a presentation on the SAC, their recommendations, next steps, and a group input session. The purpose of the SAC was to develop facility solutions to mitigate declining enrollment and make recommendations to the Superintendent and Board of Trustees.
The SAC made three recommendations:
Close Central and transition students to nearby schools (for example, Oneonta, Bayside STEAM Academy, or Emory Academy).
Close Nestor Language Academy by moving the program to Mendoza and transitioning Mendoza students to nearby schools (such as Berry, Sunnyslope, Bayside STEAM Academy, or Emory Academy).
Swap the Nestor Language Academy and Mendoza sites.
It is important to know that NO decisions have been made and any school changes will not take place until the 2025-2026 school year.
The Board will be holding a Special Board meeting on Monday, May 20 at 4:30 PM in Burress Auditorium (601 Elm Avenue in Imperial Beach) to review the SAC recommendations and community feedback. We anticipate that the Board will make their decision at our regular meeting on June 6 at 6:00 PM in Burress Auditorium. Both meetings will also be livestreamed.
